Keyboard without keys

Optimus Tactus concept keyboard by Art. Lebedev Studio does not have physical keys, which means there are no restrictions on their shape and size.
Any part of the keyboard surface can be programmed to perform any function or to display any images.

Here we can see typing mode…

… and video mode.

Absolutely amazing idea… I want one!
I want one
i must have it
Clearly not designed by a typist.
It looks great. But there’s no tactile response. Anyone used to touch typing will be screwed. To compare, pretend to type on a flat surface. Comfortable?
Optimus definitely makes some nice keyboards. Too bad they cost about $1000 to $1500
: ) Absolutely ideas. Thanks.
Cool Idea !!! But what abt usability and feasibility .. I guess it will take some time to get used to it …
You can already have this if you want - buy a tablet PC and bring up the on screen keyboard. It’s not nearly as fun / useful as you think…we LOOK at the screen and type by TOUCH….the above keyboard removes any ability to feel where the keys are under your fingers. Many keyboards even go so far as to put bumps on the F and J keys, so you can instantly feel when you’re on home row.
New idea: Keep your ordinary keyboard. Get a small touchscreen and use it as a secondary monitor.
Ugh, the same reason I hate iPhones, I just need the tactile feel of the keys to be able to type, otherwise every other word comes out misspelled. I’ll stick with waiting for the Optimum Maximus to come down in price.
It might take a while for touch-typists to get accustomed to, but, if the device’s response time is industry standard or better, I bet you could eventually flyyy on one of these. I wouldn’t buy a new one, but if they perform well on the market, they’ll be reasonable within a few years.
